Vocabulary:
Energy Simulations on Phet
- Potential Energy: Stored Energy due to the objects mass & position (height)
- Kinetic Energy: Energy in motion due to the objects mass and speed.
Energy Simulations on Phet
- Objective:
- Run a few simulations and take note of the objects speed and position and how it relates to potential energy & kinetic energy.
- Next, draw a model and point out the following:
- Where does the object have the greatest speed?
- Where does the object have the greatest height?
- Where does the object have the greatest potential energy?
- Where does the object have the greatest kinetic energy?
- What is going on as the object is going up?
- What is going on as the object is going down?
- Can the object go higher than the original position? Why or why not?
- Observe what is happening with the total amount of energy.

- The Third Pendulum Lab: Link
- Click on the 3rd lab and do the following:
- Keep the gravity on earth & no friction
- Click and drag the mass to about 45-65 degrees
- Check the velocity option
- Check the Energy Graph
- Run the simulation & answer the questions above.

Meteorite Impact Online Calculator:
- Impact Calculator: Link
- Objective:
- Change a few factors and then run the simulator and see how kinetic energy plays a factor with the results.
